I am Karen. A wife, mother of 2 grown children & an empty nester who decided to take action on my own health journey when what I had always done in my 20s/30s no longer worked for me when I hit my 40s/50s. Along the way, I discovered my skills as a macro nutrition coach could help athletes whose coaches keep telling them they need to get “bigger & stronger” but don’t know how. I knew this guidance was needed from my experience with my son’s recruiting journey to find his college team.

For Athletes: To use nutrition periodization to help you maximize your work in the gym & get your body to the next level to achieve your goals by utilizing the right ratios of macronutrients. We will do this by utilizing nutrition to work synergistically with your hours in the gym. If your coach is telling you that you need to get  “bigger & stronger”, I can help by creating a personalized roadmap for you to achieve that. My coaching for Athletes is a 3 legged stool with myself, the Athlete & the parent(s). All of us do our job to ensure the stool is steady and we can accomplish the goals we set forth. Both the parent(s) & the athlete need to be committed equally for this plan to work.

For Midlifers: To use nutrition periodization to help you realize your place in your fitness journey. Many of my midlifers have given much to their families and/or their careers putting themselves in the background. They come to me ready to become the main character in their life again but not knowing where to begin. After I get to know you, your goals & your obstacles that have been holding you back, we can develop a road map for you to go from stuck to started towards your goal of weight loss, body recomposition or to build muscle.

Juco baseball player

P. came to me as an undersized bullpen catcher with minimal game innings. During our first 6 weeks together, he was able to add 10 pounds to his frame with a detailed nutrition plan. His next 4 months were during the season in which he typically lost weight. We worked together to devise a plan to maintain his weight – which he did. At one point, a few of his teammates were perplexed about how they were losing weight during the season and didn’t understand how P was keeping his on. At the end of the season, his Juco coach gave him one directive: come back in the fall with his “grown-up body”.

We used nutrition periodization and adjusted his plan from maintenance to a clean bulk in conjunction with a customized strength plan and he was able to go from 182 to 199 over the summer. His coaches were very impressed with how he reported back to school. After adhering to the plan we set forth, he is set up to be the #1 catcher for his team now.

Midlifer, Mother

Client A, a midlife, menopausal mother of the bride, came to me wanting to lose fat before her daughter’s wedding. I developed a personalized plan for her and she was able to lose inches and pounds. About me

I am 54 year old empty nester of 2 grown children. Hallianne, 25, is a RN who is currently in the Doctor of Anesthesia-DNP/CRNA school & J.Henry, 20, who is a junior at UT Martin majoring in Finance. Both are D1 athletes. Hallianne played golf at Samford University & J.Henry is a pitcher at UTM. I am a certified Macro Nutrition Coach & a Certified Personal Trainer.

I did not grow up in a family with any athletes or desire for fitness goals. I started working out at the age of 23 purely for social reasons. Luckily, I had a knowledgeable trainer who helped me transform my body & introduced me to macros. Since then, what he instilled in me stuck. It served me well for many years when I drifted away from working out while raising my kids with a full time job. Once I hit perimenopause everything changed. What worked for me in my 20s & 30s to shed any extra weight no longer worked. After a few years of eating in a perpetual deficit along with  peri/menopause, I was mess. Couple that with a job where I drove 1k miles a week & my body was a wreck. One day I got a postcard advertising a new pilates studio opening in the area. I became a founding member. It helped me figure out the asymmetries in my body due to scoliosis & years of neglect. From there, I added strength training. I tried to wing my macros on my own with multiple rounds of a large group DIY macro count.  That proved worthless. At this point I wanted to understand Macro Tracking for my own knowledge so I signed up to get certified. In the training I learned I could be a coach & help others. With Nutrition Periodization, I am able to help clients who want fat loss, strength building or maintenance. So, I decided to offer coaching & find it very rewarding. I have helped athletes, young adults & midlife adults. I added my Personal Training certification to add even more value to my clients.

FAQ

Book an appt for a discovery call on the link to the calendar. We can chat & see if we are a good fit to work together, no obligation to you at all. If you are a midlifer wanting to increase your quality of life & become the main character in your life again or an athlete needing to get bigger & stronger, I’m your coach.

We communicate through a messaging app, Voxer. I am available daily to answer questions. I provide bi weekly zoom check-in calls to make sure the plan is being implemented seamlessly. For my mid life clients, there is a weekly check in template you will fill out each week and I give feedback weekly on those forms.

We will work together initially for a minimum of 4 months. After the 4 months, you can renew for an additional 3 months. I do have 6 month & 12 month agreements for a discounted price. I do have a reward for referrals.
I do not provide meal plans for 1 reason. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge to know how to enter any situation regarding food & know which choices are good, better & best for your goals. Giving you a meal plan is the easy way of coaching for me. I can tell anyone exactly what to eat for every meal and get the results. What happens after our time together? What did you really learn? How will you know what to choose? I will give food/meal suggestions and share social media accounts who have excellent content to help you also. I want to empower you. Not have you dependent on my for direction.

For Athletes: I have raised 2 D1 athletes. My husband’s job was not flexible & mine was. So, I had  the responsibility for both my athletes. I understand the path of the athlete & their family. For every athlete wanting to excel to the next level, there are many different spokes of the wheel that need attention. Nutrition is a very important spoke. But, likely neglected. Many families simply don’t understand the importance nutrition plays in an athlete’s success. Some do understand. However, there are so many other areas to tend to-batting practices, pitching lessons, grades, travel ball, high school ball, ACT, SAT and the list goes on and on. I have the expertise to create a custom roadmap for your athlete and take the pressure off you, the parent, of having to guide your athlete in this area as well.

For Midlifers: My coaching differs from other coaches in that I offer a breadth of life experiences. I have been a working mom learning to balance it all. My experience calling on physician practices in Southwest Florida have shown me firsthand the effects of neglecting your health early in life. The key to being independent later in life lies in your habits earlier in life. I understand many come to coaching for aesthetic reasons. In addition to that, I am concerned with helping my clients add quality to their years way after their time with me. My focus is on consistency, not perfection. Life happens & I coach to find solutions and navigate life while leading a healthy life. It’s a common sense approach to finding ways to achieve your goals. I take the emotion out of it. I may tell you what you don’t want to hear. But, you will know I have your best interests in mind.

Nutrition periodization is a term used to describe whether you are in a season of under eating(deficit), over eating(surplus) or maintaining a state of homeostasis(maintenance). These phases are used strategically to achieve your specific fitness goals.
